Mole Calculations, or commonly known as “The MOLE” or “Mole Concepts” is regarded many of the GCE O Level Chemistry Students (as well as ICGSE and IB / IP Chemistry students) to be one of the most challenging and difficult chapter / topic.
Let’s check out a common O Level Chemistry-type question on Mole Calculations as well as the video solution on the thought process of solving it.
Question: Based on the topic “Mole Calculations”
12dm3 of polluted air is passed through limewater so that all the carbon dioxide is precipitated as calcium carbonate. The mass of calcium carbonate formed is 0.05g. What is the percentage by volume, of carbon dioxide in the air sample?
Now, before you look at the solution via the video below, i would strongly suggest that you attempt the question first to see if you have the correct answer.
And NOW, when you have the answer worked out, check if your solution is the same as mine.

PS: Similar type of questions will be discussed in the upcoming “June Intensive Revision Programme” in Singapore. Of course, i will cover 100% of the essential concepts on this topic. Check it out if you need help in this topic!
PPS: I would love to hear from you on this video question & solution on Mole Calculation. Drop me a comment at “Leave A Reply” directly below this blogpost. (more…)

For the last 2 weeks, we have been talking to many students and parents (as well as guardians) that would like to join our Chemistry and/or A-Math Ultimate Leap Programmes (weekly coaching programmes).
We realise one thing very common for many of them.. the attitudes to do well for upcoming GCE O Level Examinations is not there. Many are taking a “see how lor” attitudes..parents and students…
Perhaps it is just too too early?? Only Feb?? Still 8 months to go before their child sit for the qualifying GCE O Level Examinations??? If you are one that think that you (your child) still have lots of time, i need to tell you that you are seriously wrong about it.
It is time for you (or your child) to start getting all the concepts right, cos 2009 will just pass very fast. And it is time for them to build up an Excellent Positive Attitudes in their learning. If not, no matter what amount of Chemistry Tuition or Private Tutoring will not help them to score the marks they truly deserve.
There is a saying: “Once the student is ready, The teacher will appear”
Check out a VIDEO / Blogpost i made in Year 2007 HERE to address this concerns.

I will be coming out with a series of videos to show you how Chemistry Theories are linked to everyday life.
We believe by using such ASSOCIATION Method, it will accelerate your learning process.
Our aim is to ensure that you learn Chemistry effectively and efficiently, and the theories will stay with you for life (if not, for very very long in a natural way).
In the video below, you will see me checking out my neighbourhood to find examples of Corrosion of some metals.
