O Level Chemistry: Catalysts / Ammonia / Organic Chemistry / Sulfuric Acid

For the textbooks used in Singapore, answers to this question are spread out in different chapters. This is the type of question in examination that test how well you have gone through your textbook in details. One way to study for such question is to Prepare Short Notes on your own (as compared to reading and revising directly from the textbook).

    Hi,

Common Catalysts used for the industrial prcoess are:

    a) Manufacture of sulphuric acid –> Vanadium(V) oxide, V2O5 (Contact Process)
    b) Manufacture of ammonia –> Iron (Chapter on Haber Process)
    c) Manufacture of margarine –> Nickel (Chapter on Organic Chemistry-Alkenes)

The catalysts mentioned above are those that introduced in most textbooks for
GCE O Level or GCSE examinations.

    Hope this helps.
