In the previous blogpost, we have discussed about the General Features of the Periodic Table.
Besides that, students taking GCE ‘O’ Levels / IGCSE / IB / IP examinations would also need to master the Common Properties of a Group.
Elements in the same group have similar properties:
In addition to the above, the following are observed as we go down a particular group:
Now, go ahead and try out some exam-based question and leave your suggested answers below.
Quick Check 1:
Given that Strontium is a metallic element from Group II with proton number 38.
a) What is the chemical formulae of Strontium Oxide?
b) What is the chemical formulae of Strontium Carbonate?
c) Strontium Oxide is a solid at room temperature & pressure. What do you think is the physical state of Barium Oxide?
PS: Stay tuned for the next blogpost where we go in-depth to look at the Properties of Group I Alkali Metals
PPS: Leave down your suggested answers in the Comments Section below. You will be surprised how much more you learned by participating. That’s how all our students improved in the weekly Chemistry Classes.

Hi Waleed,
However, do note that the Chemical Symbol for Strontium is Sr, NOT St.
As such,
a) SrO
b) SrCO3
c) Solid (reason as per what you have stated)
