Halo Singapore students,

How was your common tests coming along? For those that didn’t do well, this is the time to sit down and reflect what you have done for the last few months? Is your studying methods correct? Is your time management effective enough?

A week ago, a enthusiastic lady called me up to seek indiviudal chemistry coaching and advise for her daughter that has borderline pass in her Secondary 3 (Grade 9) Chemistry examinations, and are preparing for GCE O Level this year. She mentioned a few times that it might be too late for her daughter to catch up on her Sec 3 work and ask me if she do well for her Sec 4 syllabus, will it suffice for her to pass O Levels. Her daughter’s aim is to study Tourism in higher education.

First, i would need to state that to do well for Sec 4 application chapters, you would need to have a strong foundation on (more…)

Halo Parents, Students and Avid Readers,

Singapore has done well for her first International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations, as nine out of their 20 students have scored a perfect score of 45.

Special mention has to go to Samual Chan, a Year 6 student at Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) that scored Perfect even with cancer relapse during the course. A year ago, he was dealt a severe blow, where his cancer, which had been in remission for 18 months, was back, just when he had a major examination to prepare for. But he did not let his Hodgkin’s disease get in the way of his doing his best for the IB. Braving surgery and chemotherapy and radiotherapy from Jan to June, he went on to study from home for the rest of the year and sat for the exams in isolation.

After a surgey, he actually could not go back to school because of the risk of infection, and his doctors, parents and teachers than suggested putting off sitting for the examinations until he was well, but he strongly refused.

The school and his parents worked together to install video-conferencing facilities in his home that allowed him to have real-time lessons. The greater purpose of the electronic hook-up was to let him stay in touch with his friends. He really have done himself and family proud, with not just his academic results, but also his determinations in finishing what he set out to do. Well Done Samuel! An example to emulate and follow….that kind of Motivation and Passion!
