what would happen if damp(moist) iron ore were placed in the blast furnace?

Can the student that post this question share with us how you got this question and perhaps share some light on the answer (if any). Moist Iron Ore might not necessarily react with the CO.

    sir i think that damp refer to a layer of water so the hot air being blowed from below the apparatus wold solve the matter and the normal reaction would continue.

    Hi Linwood,

    Well described for the process on the Extraction of Iron in the Blast Furnace…except that Coke (C) reacts with gaseous 02 to produce CO2, and not the Hot Steam.

    Can the student that post this question share with us how you got this question and perphaps share some light on the answer (if any). Moist Iron Ore might not necessarily react with the CO.

    I wanna give it a try ๐Ÿ˜€

    molten iron will be produced after some reactions happened in the blast furnace.

    firstly, the iron ore (haematite), coke and the limestone will be fed into the blast furnace. The coke will reacts with the hot steam to produce carbon dioxide. then the CO2 will react with more coke to produce CO. then the CO will react with the iron ore to form molten iron. the limestone will be decomposed by the heat in the blast furnace to form calcium oxide and carbon dioxide.

    FYI, iron ore contains many impurities which includes SiO2 (Silicon dioxide). the silicon dioxide will react with the calcium oxide to form calcium silicate which is usually called molten slag.

    the molten slag will go down and float on the molten iron.
