Try out this question on Qualitative Analysis / Precipitation and share with us your answers & reasoning at the “Comments” section right below this post.

Question:
X forms a white ppt with dilute sulfuric acid and also with silver nitrate. What could solution X be?
A barium chloride
B magnesium chloride
C barium nitrate
D magnesium sulphate

My Suggested Answers:
If you are not very familiar with the solubility of the different types of salts, the best way to approach such question is to draw a simple table and write down the possible reaction products. (Click on Image to have a clearer view)

Temperature read when first crystals appear – will be a crucial Source of Error to report.

Usually, tempertaure should be taken when most of crystals are forming.

    Hihi!

It have been great to read your tips and notes for qualitative analysis. Thank you for taking the time off to do it. Could I ask you what are the sources of error that can occur during an energy change experiment? So far, heat loss to the surroundings seem to be the only source of error.

    Thanks!

Please see my suggested answers above.

If you are not very familiar with the solubility and colour of precipitate of salts,
the best way is to draw a table and write down the possible reaction products
    with each of the reactants.
