I was going through the contacts of those students that i have coached in the last decade and came across one student that has Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It was never a easy task to keep him stationed and focussed for5 minutes. At the same time, i came across an article that i have shared with the parent of the boy and i would like to share it with parents/guardians that faces similar challenges.
This is an article written by Al Sears, MD, titled: “Lick Your Sugar Habits”
It starts with a concerned mother that asked Al about her teenage son which has trouble concentrating in school and his grades were suffering as a results. Her family doctor said that the boy had ADHD and prescribed drugs to “fixed” the problem.
Al that found out that the boy loves soda and drinks as many as four a day. She then suggested that he cut out sugar entirely. Now, three months later, her son feels much better and his grades are improving. Best of all, he doesn’t need prescription drugs anymore.
Drinking too much soda and thus sugar are deceptively dangerous and reports from American Journal of Public Health shows that teens in Norway who drank the highest amounts of sugary sodas suffered? the highest rates of mental disorders, including ADHD.
Thus limiting the amount of sugar intake might be beneficial to your children in terms of their concentration and focus levels.
