Polling on “What is your biggest challenge in learning Chemistry” was started several months ago on our website and the current results shows that Acids, Bases & Salts and Qualitative Analysis are voted as the No. 2 and 3 Killer Topics in GCE ‘O’ Level Chemistry.
Based on overwhelming response from our students (those attending our small group coaching programs, series of Chemistry Mastery Workshops and Intensive Revision Bootcamps) as well as enquiries on our website and email, i am going to start a series of blogposts to discuss in more details of Acids, Bases & Salts as well as Qualitative Analysis. As we discuss on these topics, i will also post a series of questions for you to apply the essential concepts that you have learnt.
In view that this two topics is so “heavy” in terms of their contents (a hefty 44 pages in Marshall Cavendish Textbook), we are going to first determine what is required for the students to know and apply in GCE ‘O’ Level Examinations.
Below?are learning outcomes required by students, as shown on Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) website.

In the next series of blogposts, i will go through with you on the Essential Concepts so that you have a good basic foundations to tackle tricky application questions in these topics.
Look out for the next blogpost where i will share with you on the Chemical Definition of Acids and It’s Properties.
PS: There will be a series of related blogposts under “Secrets of Acids, Bases & Salts & Qualitative Analysis revealed!”
